3 Days, 3 Ways Joe Lombardo’s Corruption is Costing Nevadans (“Billionaire Friends” Edition)
In the final week of the election cycle, NV Dems is launching a new series to highlight Joe Lombardo’s long history of cutting deals with billionaires instead of cutting costs for working families. On day one, we’re breaking down how Lombardo abuses his power to take care of his ultra-wealthy donors as Nevadans drown in record-high costs.
From covering up for Elon Musk’s Boring Company to vetoing bills to lower housing costs while raking in millions from real estate mogul Robert Bigelow to name-dropping his way out of a traffic ticket, Lombardo’s pattern of corruption couldn’t be clearer.
Here’s a breakdown of Lombardo’s “billionaire friends”:
- Slumlord Billionaire Bigelow: After Lombardo vetoed legislation to lower housing costs, protect renters, and prevent Wall Street firms from pricing Nevadans out of purchasing a home, real estate mogul Robert Bigelow donated $8.7 million to Lombardo’s campaign and supporting PACs. Bigelow had already bankrolled Lombardo’s candidacy with $30 million in 2022.
- Private Equity Blackstone: Lombardo received $25,000 from a Blackstone group-owned company, Apartment Income REIT LP, after he vetoed legislation that would block wall street firms, like Blackstone, from being able to buy up housing in Nevada, pricing Nevadans out of home ownership.
- Billionaire-Turned-Trillionaire Elon Musk: Since Lombardo was caught in a cover up with Elon Musk’s Boring Company, the world’s first trillionaire donated $10 million to the RGA. While lawmakers have called on Lombardo time and time again to hold Musk accountable, address these deleted records of this backdoor deal with Musk, and work to ensure the safety of workers, the governor has failed to give Nevadans answers.
- Big Pharma: Lombardo has raked in nearly $375,000 in Big Pharma cash after vetoing bills that would have reduced prescription drug costs while Nevadans’ health care costs continue to rise faster than anywhere else in the nation.
- Union Busting Feritta Brothers: After taking nearly $5 million (now up to $7 million) from the “largest law breakers in [state] labor law history,” Lombardo vetoed expanded sick leave, extended paid family leave, and greater worker protections.
